ENGL1010 Credit for ACT English Subscores

The Undergraduate Curriculum Council has included a new option for students using the 2010 catalog/bulletin. Beginning in the 2010 academic year, students scoring 29 or higher on the ACT English Sub Score will be awarded 3 hours credit for ENGL1010. Students who are eligible to update to the 2010 catalog/bulletin may take advantage of this new option if they do not yet have a grade in ENGL1010. Students who have taken the course and earned a passing or failing grade are not eligible.

This effort is a 2-year pilot. Before the end of that period, the English department will analyze data to assess the level of success of these students in ENGL 1020, and make recommendations (about needed modifications or continuation “as is”) to the UUC.

The Office of Admissions has been contacted and will set up a process for this policy.
