ACAD Announcements and Updates for Advisors

Barbara Thompson announced that there will be no special sections of ACAD1100 for reading/study skills this coming Fall 2010. Kay Hawes has retired. ACAD faculty will monitor students in their section who must complete the reading/study skills requirements to ensure that they are aware of that the requirement may be satisfied with a grade of C or better in ACAD1100.

History Requirement for General Education

Per Dr. Kay Clark at TBR, HIST1110, 1120, 2010, 2020, and the present list of thematic courses may be used to satisfy the History requirement for general education beginning in the Fall 2010 catalog. HIST1110 and 1120 will no longer be used to satisfy humanities as of that catalog. Any two courses from the above list may be used to satisfy the six hour requirement.
Questions remain concerning College of Education requirements for particular History courses for the teacher education programs. Kim Enfield will be asked to clarify at the next AAN meeting.

Gerise Guy fielded questions concerning Academic Warning, Probation, and Suspension.

Time to be advised Advising signs going up by March 1. Please contact Karen Thurmond if you can take a walk around campus to put these signs in the ground one day next week.

FERPA reminders

A reminder from the Registrar’s office…in putting together and distributing any report, list, or other information please consider the potential audiences of the information, and protect students. Dean’s list was mentioned as an example.

Academic Advising Awareness Week March 1-5, 2010

Sign up sheets for Student Outreach March 1 and 2 were circulated. If you were not at the meeting you may still sign up for a one hour shift in one of four location for March 1 or 2. Please add your name to the sign up list by Wednesday, February 24 so that we have time to forward instructions, materials, and your Advisor T-Shirt if needed.
